1st June update - additional grants

Dear Clients,

This is addressed to any client that has so far NOT been able to obtain any grant support from the government, excluding the furlough scheme.

So if you have already received either the £10K or £25K council grant or the Self Employed Income Support this e-mail does not apply to you.

A new Government scheme has launched to provide funding to businesses that have not previously been eligible for Coronavirus-related support.

The new scheme provides support to businesses and organisations that have suffered from a significant fall in income due to Covid-19 and have not been able to access other grants available. All applications for grants need to be submitted by 12th June to be considered.

The following exclusions apply:

businesses where there is evidence to support that they are having a detrimental impact on the city, our residents or our neighbourhoods.
national charities
businesses operating from domestic settings other than B&B’s
businesses that are part of a national chain
storage facilities
small business not in retail / hospitality/leisure sector with a rateable value or rent over £15k per annum
charities that have received funding from the £360 million directly allocated by government departments to charities providing key services and supporting vulnerable people during the crisis

To claim this new support, businesses must have been trading on 11 March 2020, have less than 50 employees, have ongoing, fixed property costs and not benefited from another Covid-19 related grant, including Self Employed Income Support.

We are aware that Sheffield Council has decided to initially award grants of £3,000, £5,000 or £10,000 to the following priority categories:

·         Businesses and charities in shared offices or other flexible workspaces (industrial parks, science parks and incubators) which do not have their own business rates assessment

·         Retail, Hospitality and Leisure businesses in shared spaces or other flexible workspaces and concessions (food halls) which do not have their own business rates assessment

·         Local charity properties in receipt of Charitable Rates Relief which would otherwise have been eligible for Small Business Rates Relief

·         Nurseries who were otherwise eligible for a Small Business Grant but excluded because they have a rateable value over £15,000

The application form and full guidance can be found on the SCC website at https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/home/your-city-council/coronavirus-support-for-business/sheffield-covid19-grant-scheme.

Anybody who is uncertain whether they might be eligible should contact Business Sheffield on 0114 224 5000 or email businesssheffield@sheffield.gov.uk.

There will be similar schemes in place via other councils

Kind regards,
